Printwize goes new for old with guillotine purchase

Print Solutions

Essex based Printwize has replaced its 10 year old Wohlenberg guillotine with a new 115 Baumann-Wohlenberg from Friedheim International to allow the company to enhance its cutting for more complex and demanding jobs.

The new guillotine, with its touch screen and CIP data module, offers menu guided programming and covers a variety of cutting jobs, for example, single cut, program cut, repeat cut, clamping without cut, and automatic actual value transfer – to name but a few. The 115 guillotine also has quick knife exchange and a low maintenance electromagnetic clutch as well as an electronic hand wheel for the back gauge positioning.

Roger Wacey, chairman at Printwize, said: ‘We have purchased finishing equipment from Friedheim before. In 2008, we bought handling as well as the guillotine we have just replaced and we have been very happy with the entire system. As a company we prefer having two of everything throughout our range of equipment, having a single guillotine can be a little tricky, since if that goes down or needs maintenance we don’t have any contingency – reliability in our guillotine is of utmost importance to us. With the new features of the Baumann, both the reliability of the machine as well as the help we get from Friedheim is very reassuring. These new features also mean we can do more complex and intricate work for our customers and their campaigns – it gives us the assurance of being able to fulfil all our cutting work. It wasn’t the cheapest of the ones we looked at, but the extra features are more than worth it.’

The Baumann was installed at the beginning of November 2017 and was integrated into the company’s workflow.

Printwize runs Mitsubishi Diamond B1 presses with in line coating units which it is looking to replace later this year – with one to be converted to UV. It also runs a Konica Minolta digital production press, suited for quick turnaround work, for leaflets or multi page booklets using a wide range of substrates from PVC and plastic, to die cut boxes and labels.
