The Stationers’ Company has announced the winners of its 2018 Innovation Excellence Awards at an event held at Stationers’ Hall yesterday (June 26).

Overall Innovator of the Year went to Parkside Flexibles (UK & Asia) Ltd, which also won the Novel Manufacturing Technology category, for its Park 2 Nature, a range of compostable laminate structures to replace traditional plastic packaging.

Winners of the individual categories were as follows.

Innovative Application of Digital Technologies: DoubleMe for LoopSpace, an application for the HoloLens mixed reality headset.

Creative Means of Communicating with Target Audiences: Bloomsbury Publishing Plc for the Bloomsbury Publishing Platform, enabling rapid and cost effective online publishing.

Novel Product Design: Sun Chemical for SunMotion, a low cost digital display system that simulates motion.

New Communication Programmes that Enhance Social, Educational and Community Development: Zeshan Qureshi for the Unofficial Guide to Medicine textbook series, a new model for crowd sourced expert publications.

Jonathan Drori, chairman of the Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Awards, said: ‘This has been a bumper year for the Innovation Excellence Awards. With a very strong field of entries, from small and large organisations and from every one of the Stationers’ Company’s sectors, the judging panel had a difficult yet enjoyable job. The judges were very pleased to see how the industry is taking its effect on society and the environment so seriously.

‘After considerable debate, the judges’ unanimous choice of overall Innovator of the Year is Parkside Flexibles (UK & Asia) Ltd. Its winning entry, Park 2 Nature, a range of certified compostable laminate materials to replace plastics, will doubtless have a positive impact on the environment. The judges were particularly impressed by both the eye catching attractiveness of the product and the tenacity of the team, noting the long period of research culminating in Park 2 Nature.’
