Leeds Die Cutting enhances service delivery with double Horizon buy

Print Solutions

Trade finisher Leeds Die Cutting has enhanced its service delivery with an Intelligent Finishing Systems supplied Horizon BQ470EVA perfect binder and a Horizon CRF-362 creaser folder.

‘We already had a Horizon BQ270 perfect binder which ran very well,’ stated owner Ian Bradley. ‘But then we needed a more productive system. The BQ470 was the perfect next step. It is ideal for short to medium runs and will also handle longer runs.

‘We know from experience how easy the Horizon systems are to set up and the level of quality that can be achieved. We didn’t look at anything else because we knew it would do what we wanted it to do. We also have a good relationship with IFS and so it made sense to continue that.’

The Horizon BQ-470 four clamp perfect binder is ideally suited to mid range soft back book production with higher production speeds, instant make readies for runs of one. It can bind up to 65 mm thickness and offers fully automated set up through an intuitive icon based LCD touchscreen.

The Horizon CRF-362 creases and folds in one pass a wide range of light and heavy weight stocks, coated or uncoated. Capable of up to ten crease lines on a sheet, it uses an impact scoring technology that eliminates or minimizes cracking of the stock or printed image. Set up and changeovers – including fold pattern, creasing number, and up/down crease selection – are completed on the high resolution intuitive colour touch screen.

‘It does what we need it to do,’ added Ian. ‘It is very versatile. We chose it to give us another option for stitched booklet cover creasing, which we can’t do online. It also removes a process when creasing leaflets etc prior to folding and supports the perfect binder for pre creasing covers on tricky stock and for covers with throw outs. It removes a bottleneck and that streamlines our workflow.’

He concluded, ‘Both solutions have increased our production capacity and enabled us to competitively quote for longer runs. We can now be more flexible and confident that we can reliably meet the fast turnaround times our customers require.’
