Smurfit Kappa announces Wigan Athletic sponsorship

Smurfit Kappa has announced a new partnership with Wigan Athletic Football Club. The sponsorship deal will see the packaging leader’s branding appearing on the back of the new 2019 to 2020 season home and away kits.

The club, which is fondly referred to as ‘The Latics’, will be playing in the 2019 to 2020 Sky Bet Championship which gets underway next month.

Commenting on the new partnership Wigan Athletic executive chairman, Darren Royle, said: ‘To partner with a world renowned business such as Smurfit Kappa is a great opportunity and major coup for Wigan Athletic.

‘The fact that Smurfit Kappa wants to be connected to this journey we are currently embarking on is really pleasing and I look forward to developing the relationship between Wigan Athletic and Smurfit Kappa.’

Clive Bowers, CEO of Smurfit Kappa UK, added: ‘We are excited about our partnership with Wigan AFC and we wish them all the best in the upcoming season.

‘While we are a global company, we have a number of operations in the UK and we look forward to building on this new relationship.’

Established in 1932, Wigan Athletic plays at the DW Stadium in Wigan which is located in the Greater Manchester area. The Smurfit family has roots in the North West of England and is a long term supporter of the club.
