Gomer Press moves to latest generation Polar guillotine

Print Solutions

Book printing specialist Gomer Press is replacing a 2004 model guillotine with a Polar 115N Plus, taking advantage of a competitive price to bring its cutting up to the latest specification.

‘Polar technology is reliable and we could have continued with the 15 year old guillotine but the cost to upgrade proved so good that it made sense to move to the latest generation model,’ said Jonathan Lewis, managing director.

‘We are regular investors in equipment and this guillotine will handle work from our press line up that includes the Speedmaster XL 106-4-P LE-UV that we installed last year. It has been brilliant. Having dry sheets means we can handle sheets straight away in the bindery. Also some customers prefer the texture and look achievable without coating. There is no colour compromise and the finish has been fantastic for the high quality artwork books. This press is also more productive than the previous machine.’

The Polar 115N Plus will be delivered to the Llandysul plant later this month and will immediately move into production. This guillotine has graphic programming and operator assists on its 18.5 inch colour touchscreen monitor. Other advantages with this technology is the quick and safe knife changing with Optiknife. It is a very popular model with B1 printers.
