Ball Corporation supports Jimmy’s Iced Coffee

Packaging Solutions

Ball Corporation has created a collection of newly designed, infinitely recyclable 250 ml cans in partnership with Jimmy’s Iced Coffee (‘Jimmy’s’), the entrepreneurial Dorset based UK beverage brand.

Aluminium cans have a very high recycling rate, at 75% on average in Europe. Swapping the existing cartons for infinitely recyclable cans moves Jimmy’s closer to achieving its environmental aim of removing all plastic from its packaging in 2020.

The partnership between Ball and Jimmy’s started in 2019 with the launch of the original Flat White in cans. Following the huge success of this new product, Jimmy’s has worked with Ball to produce three new canned Flat Whites – Skinny, Oat and Extra Shot Flat White. Waitrose, Tesco and other major supermarkets will be the first to debut the new canned iced coffees. The skimmed Flat White replaces Jimmy’s Skinny Latte carton and comes with a stronger coffee kick.

This follows on from the earlier news that Ball has earned the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification for all 23 of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) beverage can plants. The company is the first beverage can manufacturer to meet ASI’s environmental, social and governance principles, and is a major sustainability milestone for the company.

All three Iced Flat Whites have distinctive and freshly designed two tone packaging. The design of the new cans is cleaner to align with the simplicity of Jimmy’s new logo.

Luke Wilkes, operations director, Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, said: ‘Championing sustainability has always been at the heart of Jimmy’s offering, so switching to aluminium is a natural next step for us. Infinitely recyclable aluminium allows us to supply our customers in more environmentally friendly packaging and further embed sustainability in our business. We are excited to be working with Ball who are one of the leaders in this area,’

Greg Mucha, European business development manager, Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA, said: ‘With more consumers, retailers and brands demanding sustainable solutions, aluminium cans, which can be recycled over and over, without loss of quality, are the fastest growing packaging type in Europe. At Ball, we love to work closely with customers looking to transition to a higher performing package and our recent ASI certification for all our EMEA plants and commitments to renewables demonstrates that we are fully committed to sustainable business.’
