PFF Packaging group invests in new injection moulding technology

Packaging Solutions

The PFF Packaging Group has invested £1.5 million in new injection moulding technology – a move which will significantly strengthen its position in the sector and extend its food packaging offering for customers.

Two new BMB 500 tonne eKW hybrid high volume machines – each capable of producing up to 200,000 units per week – have been installed at the group’s manufacturing site in Washington, Tyne & Wear, and are being used to produce bespoke tubs and lids for the dairy industry. The investment now enables the company to offer customers a complete solution in terms of packaging options.

‘We found that many of our customers had to import injection moulded products because they couldn’t find a UK supplier capable of delivering bespoke solutions,’ explained managing director Andy Bairstow.

‘Thin wall injection moulding technology has developed enormously in recent years so it is much faster and more efficient than it used to be. By developing our own injection moulding offering alongside our thermoforming solutions, our customers can now benefit from dealing with one single supplier for all their packaging requirements.’

PFF’s investment in additional equipment comes hot on the heels of the opening last year of its £1 million Innovation Centre on the same site – a creative hub for packaging innovation and sustainability which aims to deliver bespoke concepts and design to prototype solutions within 24 hours.
