IFS supplied system supports fast and efficient print on-demand service

Precision Printing has enhanced its responsive book production capabilities with a Horizon StitchLiner Mark III and 2 VAC-600 collators from Intelligent Finishing Systems.

The reinvestment in Horizon StitchLiner technology supports the London operation’s increased focus on providing a fast and efficient print on demand service.

Precision first invested in StitchLiner technology ten years ago when it installed a StitchLiner 5500 with 2 VAC-600 towers. In 2016 it invested in a straight like for like replacement.

Chris Pinborough production director, explained: ‘We needed a system that could deliver high quality, fast turnaround, short runs. In 2016 we went from running four to five jobs per shift to 20 to 25. Volumes have consistently grown since then and we needed something to manage that. Choosing the Mark III was easy. There is nothing else like it on the market. It is now running 35 to 40 jobs per shift.’

He continued, ‘To date our StitchLiners have been very reliable and we have hardly ever had any engineer call outs. We also know they deliver the quality we need. The Mark III does exactly what it says on the tin and supports increased demand for landscape work. We were doing this in-house on a different system but this was time consuming.’

The next generation Horizon StitchLiner Mark III builds on the hugely successful innovative StitchLiner series. Complete with servo drive technology, the system runs at a maximum speed of 6000 booklets per hour and up to 12,000 booklets per hour with two-up production. It can produce A4 landscape booklets at speeds of up to 5,300 booklets per hour.

Equipped with a new large 12.1" HD colour touch screen there is also a quicker and more precise knife movement and variable thickness production as standard with new Hohner 52/8S stitching heads.

‘It is running very well and we expect it to pay for itself within 12 months,’ added Chris.
