The Printroom brings lamination in-house

Print Solutions

Liverpool commercial printer The Printroom has brought lamination in-house with investment in the next generation B2 Foliant Taurus 530 NG and Foliant Multi-functional Inprinting Unit from IFS.

Established in 2003, by a team who previously worked together in the print department of a major financial organisation based in Crosby, The Printroom runs a B2 manroland 500 alcohol free press and holds EMAS certification. It is also ISO14001 and FSC certified. It produces digital print on a Canon imagePress 7011.

The laminator joins a Horizon StitchLiner 6000 installed in 2013 and a Perfecta 115 guillotine installed in 2009.

Managing director David Mann said, ‘We produce a lot of high quality booklets and brochures for universities, colleges and schools plus promotional print for marketing agencies.

‘We were sending out our lamination work to a very good local trade finisher but volumes were growing for fast turnaround short run work. We were getting a bottleneck so decided to bring the process in-house.

‘We did look at another system but the Foliant was most suited to the volumes we were going to be running. Now we can be much faster in turning our lamination work around. We have also been adding it to some jobs as an extra to test it out and this has resulted in customers coming back and asking for it again.

‘We liked its foiling capability too. This is something we are going to be offering more and more.’

The Foliant Multi-functional Inprinting Unit makes foiling and spot varnish fast and affordable for short run and personalised print. It runs a wide range of colours including gold, silver, red and green and a clear gloss for spot varnish. It suits a broad range of end uses from corporate stationery to point of sale and book covers.

David added, ‘We have already completed some small orders that would have been too expensive if a die was required.’

As for return on investment he said, ‘We expect it will pay for itself in two years but the investment was less about achieving return on investment and more about providing a responsive service for our clients.’
