Steller Packing ringing in the changes as new management team

Packaging Solutions

The new owners of independent UK contract packing company, Steller Packing have spoken for the first time about the steps they are taking to rebuild the business.

Harem Kamishi, previously owner of a recruitment business that had supplied Stellar Packing with contract staff for the past 10 years, became managing director in November after leading a successful buy out of the company.

The decision secured the future of 30 permanent jobs and over 100 temporary jobs but also prompted the start of an overhaul of the company which had slipped into administration earlier that month.

That has been led by a new management team, including Julian Williams-Dalson, whose invaluable expertise as head of operations at ABP UK Ltd and group operations director, Anglo Dutch Meats, will be vital to the company’s future success.

Julian Williams-Dalson will have complete oversight of operations as site director, leading a complete review of how Steller Packing is run – from sales and production, to HR, finance and technical matters.

This has already resulted in changes aimed at transforming the way Steller Packing operates – from an overhaul of the management structure to the introduction of new processes and procedures to boost productivity.

There will be more to come in 2019, but the work to date is already seeing results – from stocktaking through to costings, quality management, accreditations and formal staff training. Julian has also overseen the move to new premises that will give the company the right configuration of space to enhance production and storage space.

Harem Kamishi, managing director, Steller Packing, said: ‘It has only been a few weeks since my team and I took over the ownership of Steller Packing, but in that short time we have been able to start making the changes that will safeguard the future of the company.

‘Companies don’t go into administration without good reason and it was clear there were policies and procedures and decisions being made that sadly ultimately led to that result. We are putting that right.

‘We are very fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Julian Williams-Dalson as our site director. His experience and expertise in this industry will be vital as we turn around the business. He will be ably supported by a new management team who will oversee improvements that will help to transform the way we operate and the way we deliver for our customers across the UK.’

Julian Williams-Dalson, site director, added: ‘What I like about this business is the potential. The customer base, the products we pack; the kudos of working for everyone from leading cosmetic brands to premium luxury retailers.

‘I am driven by success and can see a great opportunity here. We have got the right experience in situ, the right people looking at the product who care about the product and who care about the customers. That is the starting point on which the management team and I are now looking to build.’
