RAP appoints authority on sustainable packaging

Packaging Solutions

Rapid Action Packaging (RAP) has appointed leading retail packaging expert, Dr Mark Caul, as its head of technical.

A chartered engineer, materials science engineer, chartered environmentalist, fellow of the Institute of Materials and board member of the Packaging Society, Mark will take up his position in March 2019.

With a career that started with British Nuclear Fuels, Mark has spent the past ten years at the forefront of packaging sustainability strategy within the food industry. First with Marks & Spencer, where he was instrumental in delivering its ‘Plan A’ packaging strategy, while also driving a step change in the company’s long term innovation performance. And, latterly with Tesco, where he oversaw and progressed the technical aspects of the retailer’s own brand packaging, as packaging sustainability manager, and ‘producer responsibilities’ of the branded suppliers.

In addition, Mark has been a retailer representative on the recent Government strategy and policy development initiatives, for areas including the deposit return scheme and extended producer responsibilities.

Graham Williams, CEO for RAP, said: ‘Mark will not only bring his immense experience to supporting the day to day technical challenges of our intricate supply chain, but crucially will help us move forward with our ‘Removing Avoidable Plastics’ strategy.

‘This will be instrumental in helping our customers make a sustainable journey to reduce plastic in the many products they supply the industry. We are delighted to make this great signing.’

Mark said, ‘This is a new and exciting challenge for me, I am looking forward to bringing my experience and knowledge to RAP, a company that I have long admired for its innovative and progressive spirit. RAP has many of the values that are important to me and I am looking forward to adding to its already impressive success story.’
