Pursu Endurance Nutrition goes the distance with Parkside

Packaging Solutions

Pursu Endurance Nutrition has introduced compostable packaging for its range of vegan energy bars in collaboration with packaging solutions specialists, Parkside.

The packaging is made from a bio based paper and metallised Natureflex material, which provide excellent oxygen and moisture barriers to extend shelf life of the food product, whilst maintaining optimum flavour. The pack is fully home compostable and designed to break down within 26 weeks, gaining accreditation from TUV (formerly Vincotte).

Developed to support Pursu’s vision of being a sustainable and ethical innovator in the sports nutrition sector, the partnership with Parkside has enabled the start up company to offer a packaging solution that eliminates single use plastic.

Pursu owner and founder Sanjay Soni said, ‘As a company, we pride ourselves in going the extra mile to ensure our products are mindful of the environment. This is our first venture into any form of packaging development for our products and we wanted it to reflect our values. As a cyclist myself the inability to dispose of cycling nutrition packaging in a sustainable way frustrated me so it was important for me to solve this issue with Pursu.

‘With a real focus on nutrition for cyclists, we hope we can inspire people to lead healthy active lives whilst being mindful of our wonderful planet.’

The energy bars are made from 100% natural ingredients, are free from added sugars and available in a range of flavours including, banana, sour cherry and beetroot. The bars are available online at www.pursu.co.uk.

The new pack adds to Parkside’s ever growing Park2Nature range of compostable solutions.

Business development manager at Parkside, Paul Lenihan, said: ‘Pursu heard about our range of compostable packaging in the media and approached us with the aim of producing something similar for their energy bars. It was a fascinating project to be involved in as the end goal of tackling litter was something which appealed to us.’
