Horizon system trims production times for CDS
After a company wide review, communications agency CDS has invested in a Horizon HT-30C three side trimmer from Intelligent Finishing Systems.
The new trimmer was chosen to expand production capacity and streamline workflow during peak demand at CDS’s Aylesbury digital print arm. It will be joined by a Perfecta 78 Eco guillotine.
CDS operates from ten locations nationwide including Leeds, Norwich and Northern Ireland, plus on-site units at Queens University in Belfast, Middlesex University and Waltham Forest Council. It works with Transport for London, the Ministry of Defence and the Metropolitan Police, and specialises in contract work for the wider public sector and universities.
The investment followed an end to end operational assessment working in partnership with Canon. As a trusted partner for a number of years, Canon’s understanding of the CDS business and consultative approach has ensured the investment in the process helped the business achieve significant results.
CDS believes Canon, as a high-valued partner, played a fundamental role in optimising efficiencies and future-proofing of its business.
Ian Wilton, operations director, explained: ‘After reviewing operations, challenges and opportunities we developed a three year plan. We are growing quickly and had to ensure we have the equipment to meet demand and continue to deliver the high level of service and quality at speed our customers are accustomed to.’
He continued, ‘We picked the trimmer to ease a bottleneck so we could keep production moving. It is a great system. It does exactly what we need it to do. Now we are much more efficient. In fact, it saves up to as much as 50% in the time it takes to finish work. It has freed up our guillotine and turnaround times on jobs have improved consequently. Taking all the above into account the return on this investment will materialize much quicker than anticipated.’
The Horizon HT-30C three side trimmer features automated job set ups and quick changeovers with the ability to store up to 40 different book jobs in memory. It operates off line to trim perfect bound books at speeds up to 200 cycles per hour. A colour touch screen allows all set-ups to be performed with full automation.
