Corrugated packaging manufacturer Rigid Containers has donated £600 from an employee competition to a charity that cares for the elderly and vulnerable.
Marlow House, a community day care centre located near Rigid’s head office in Desborough, Northamptonshire, has been given the funds to support the charity’s ethos to improve lives.
The donation was raised by Rigid through the sales of a company advent calendar, following a design competition that was open to children of Rigid’s employees across its four sites in the UK and Ireland.
Founded in 1983, Marlow House survives largely on the support of volunteers and donations and provides subsidised services such as meals on wheels, assisted bathing and a welcoming environment for people to socialise.
Saqib Khawaja, Rigid Containers’ group financial director, said: ‘Marlow House does a wonderful job for the local community and we are proud to be able to show our support with this donation.’
Marlow House fundraising co-ordinator Lynda Cosgrove said she was delighted by the generosity of Rigid as the donation helped provide a real lifeline to vulnerable people in the local area. ‘The running costs of Marlow House are a constant concern and challenge,’ she said.
‘The centre lets people keep their independence and provides a friendly space for people to relax, meet new friends and enjoy a hot meal while giving carers respite too. Thank you to Rigid’s staff for raising money that will help provide this valuable service.’
