CS Pouches launches new conversion line

Digitally printed flexible pouches were launched by CS Labels into the market back in 2015 through a huge innovation and research and development project to deliver a solution for an international brand. Since the launch, CS has been awarded countless accolades and special mentions within the digital print and packaging industry for both quality and innovation.

In early 2019, CS launched the CS Pouches brand, together with new website, (www.cspouches.co.uk). All of the manufacturing processes were amalgamated into a single production location at CS’ Steelpark site in Wolverhampton, together with the installation of a new, bespoke Quadropack converter.

The company has now invested further in a new Karlville (KS-DSUP-400-GSW) twin web conversion line. This huge investment in new engineering solves many of the challenges it once had, and the offering to its flexible pouch customers will now deliver a number of fantastic improvements including a much larger spectrum of sizes and an increase in speed.

The new Karlville utilises ultrasonic welding techniques as opposed to standard heat and pressure methods. The advantage of ultrasonic weld is no toner discolouration when forming pouches

Twin web also gives the ultimate flexibility in the size and constructions – this can include a mix of material constructions, ie clear front with a metallic back

Also, as part of this investment project the new technology is now housed in its own purpose built production room, together with newly installed additional racking to increase material stockholding (to support lead times), and an extended mezzanine floor to provide additional space in the production area.

The flexible pouches are manufactured using food safe, non-toxic, dry toner on Xeikon digital presses. However, in order for any packaging to be certified as food safe, extensive toner migration testing via an external third party must be completed. The industry standard for certification is 10 parts per billion, CS’ testing delivered less than four parts per billion meaning that CS Pouches has been awarded with a Food Safe standard by Sidwell Consulting.
