Antalis’ Olin Design creates the right tone for prestigious school journal

The Wykeham Journal, an annual report by Winchester College, has become a collector’s piece – as well as a much anticipated read – for many recipients.
Designed and produced by Scottish design agency Contagious, each new edition of the journal takes on a slightly different edge to the previous year, whilst maintaining enough consistency to ensure they work well as a set.
Requiring a tactile paper with good sustainability credentials, that also offered excellent image reproduction, Contagious chose Antalis’ Olin Design papers and boards for the 2021 edition of the Wykeham Journal.
Olin Design Smooth High White 250 g/m2, was selected for the cover while Olin Design Rough High White and Olin Design Rough Cream 120 g/m2, were used for the journal’s 76 text pages.
Production manager at Contagious, Jennifer Newall, said: ‘By using Olin Design, we sought to create a report that presents a tactile warmth and comfort to the reader. The paper enhances the photography in a soft and subtle appearance yet fully realising the depth of tone and colour. Many recipients have said they look forward to receiving their copy every year, so our choice of paper is as important as the content.
‘We also chose Olin Design because of its sustainability credentials – including FSC certification – and because the range is carbon balanced, which is an important consideration for Winchester College. Using a highly sustainable, eco responsible paper wherever possible is important to us and our clients. Olin Design does not compromise on quality to meet these credentials, meaning we can achieve a premium and high quality output – making it our go to choice of paper stock.’
The journal was printed lithographically using a four colour press.
