Canon has announced that following a stringent testing process, its ProStream 1800 web fed inkjet press is the first digital printing system in the world to be Fogra59 certified. Not only does the certification give ProStream 1800 users confidence in the colour accuracy and consistent repeatability of their printed output, but it also offers a potential competitive advantage. Importantly, for spot colour reproduction, the large colour gamut of the ProStream enables customers to extend the Pantone colour coverage to 93% with only four on-press colours, depending on the paper used.
For high volume, commercial print environments, the ProStream 1800 offers speeds of up to 133 metres per minute and combines the print quality and media flexibility of offset with the production efficiency and versatility of digital inkjet to deliver exceptional performance. Using native 1200 dpi piezo drop on-demand printheads and proprietary polymer pigment inks with Canon ColorGrip to ensure colour consistency, the ProStream 1800 achieves outstanding print quality across a huge range of media, including standard offset coated, uncoated and inkjet optimised papers from 40 to 300 g/m2.
eciCMYKv2 (Fogra59) is the successor of eciCMYK (Fogra53). These are CMYK exchange colour space profiles dedicated to colour communication in the field of print production. The large gamut size covers all relevant classic output standards and complies with typical CMYK colour spaces of classic printing, enabling a consistent colour appearance along all production steps.
The Fogra59 certification of the ProStream 1800 builds on recent certifications of other Canon inkjet presses. The varioPrint iX-series has achieved Fogra51 certification for meeting the specifications of the ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) Print Check and the ProStream 1000 has been similarly certified as a result of specialist book and journal printer, Henry Ling, receiving the certification for its production workflow, which includes the ProStream 1000.
Helen Kennett, managing director at Henry Ling, perfectly sums up the benefits of receiving the certification: ‘Having the Fogra certification gives us confidence in the predictability of the print quality produced on the ProStream. This allows us to move jobs between offset and digital using the same stock and achieving the same print quality. As a result, we have broadened our business into areas which were previously not possible.’
Based on the ISO 15311 international digital printing standard, the Fogra PSD PrintCheck certification confirms that the digital printed output from both Canon inkjet series meets the highest levels of colour fidelity, consistency, uniformity, print resolution, detail sharpness and stability of print.
