The Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES) is designed for customers producing, specifying, or developing fibre based packaging. The service offers a detailed assessment and breakdown of a fibre based packaging solution’s recyclability, alongside guidance on how to improve recycling credentials in a standard European recycling facility or paper mill.

In conjunction with providing valuable tools to evidence the recyclability of fibre based packaging, the RES Lab based testing is intended to effectively support businesses in decreasing their fees under new or imminent legislation, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Anita Clarke, marketing director, DS Smith, said: ‘We are thrilled to win this 4evergreen award for our Recyclability Evaluation Service. This initiative has been a tremendous success with customers in terms of evaluating their packaging’s recyclability in the context of a large scale and real world recycling experience. We are committed to helping them futureproof their packaging solutions as they navigate PPWR and EPR, and to supporting them in developing recyclable packaging across an international footprint. We are collaborating and working together to drive the circular economy in packaging solutions.’

The 4evergreen awards and its Circularity Success Stories recognises award member initiatives that contribute to the circularity of fibre based packaging and design.

The Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES) is operated from within the DS Smith Kemsley paper mill in the UK – one of Europe’s largest recycled paper mills with an annual production capacity of around 830,000 tonnes.
