Packaging manufacturer and consultancy Duo UK is bucking industry trends, as it celebrates the long term service of its 100 strong workforce.
In total, 102 members of staff at its Manchester headquarters have amassed more than 1000 years of service, averaging 10 years per person at the business. One in six employees have worked with the company, which was founded in 1988, for more than 20 years.
According to industry figures, the average length of service in the UK manufacturing sector is between two to five years. In Greater Manchester, this figure for manufacturing employees is around four to six years.
Zoe Brimelow, director at Duo UK, commented: ‘We have an extremely loyal and hard working team, many of whom have been on our growth journey for more than 20 years.
‘Our people are hugely important to us as a business, which is acknowledged by our Investors in People Silver accreditation. We are strongly committed to investing in training and development, as well as health and wellbeing, to ensure they feel valued and rewarded. We are delighted to see so many exceeding the 10 years’ service mark, as we continue to buck industry trends.’
At the end of last year, Duo was awarded the highest BRCGS certification, cementing its commitment to delivering exceptional quality and safety standards in packaging.
Following an unannounced, independent audit of Duo’s Manchester facility, which produces a range of non food contact packaging for supermarket products and consumer goods, the business was awarded an AA+ accreditation.
Zoe added, ‘Businesses across the UK and internationally are moving towards a circular economy. There are changing regulations, evolving consumer behaviours and demands, as well as an appetite amongst organisations to be more sustainable. All of these factors are creating growing markets for the packaging solutions we create – solutions that are based on a long standing commitment to innovations in sustainable packaging, the recyclability of packaging materials and helping realise a circular economy for plastics.
‘In addition, we expect future growth to come from expansion into new sectors and markets, such as drink and beverage, as well as international opportunities as we continue to explore product innovations that set us apart in the market – strengthening our reputation as a first choice packaging manufacturer and consultancy for many leading retailers and brands through our strong portfolio of products such as Oceanix, Duo Optipac and bio based GreenPE.’
