MPL, UK distributor for RMGT offset litho presses, has announced the latest press order from Leicester based Flexpress. The eight colour perfecting press will incorporate LED-UV drying and camera based quality control equipment.

Flexpress chairman Steve Wenlock said, ‘As part of a major upgrade programme this year, I am proud to announce that Flexpress has placed an order for our biggest investment ever – the incredible RMGT 970PF-8 – the first of its kind for mainland UK.’

The ‘first of its kind’ is because of the SimulChange automatic plate change system – eight plates removed and eight new plates loaded in just 65 seconds – along with other new technical features on this offset litho printing press.

The camera technology employed on the RMGT press to check print quality now includes the ability to compare the print to a PDF as an alternative to a press pass sheet.

Steve added, ‘This printing press brings unsurpassed levels of automation to lithographic printing, with lightning fast makeready times, sophisticated quality checking on the run, as well as the capability to print the equivalent of 240,000 A4 pages per hour, cost effectively.

‘Okay, so we have got to wait until September for the install, but with lots of preparation to do in the meantime it is probably a good job! I think it is fair to say that this demonstrates Flexpress's long term commitment to continue to deliver top quality products and outstanding value in an evercompetitive market.’

Commenting on the order for MPL, joint managing director Mark Stribley, said: ‘Many thanks and congratulations to Steve Wenlock and the Flexpress team for the order – the biggest investment ever by the company.

‘As mentioned by Steve, the sum of 240,000 x A4 pages per hour illustrates the gap between litho and digital in terms of productivity. Our mantra still holds good: a print shop needs both digital and litho to be both efficient and effective.

‘We look forward to receiving and installing this fabulous piece of RMGT printing hardware later this year, and to see the great quality and quantity of Flexpress work roll off the machine.’
