Foilco has announced that it has been acquired by Washin – a prestigious Japanese hot stamping foil manufacturer concentrating mainly on decoration in the plastics market that also specialises in technical coatings.
Foilco directors Matt and Paul first met representatives from Washin in 2025, and since then have been consistently impressed by the technical knowledge, ambition for growth, and genuine appreciation for what has been built at Foilco since starting in 1987.

Over the years Matt and Paul have been approached by different businesses but have always been clear about one thing: if Foilco was ever to become part of another company, it would only be with the right partner – one that shares the same optimism for the future and understands the value of what Foilco has created in the North of England.
Paul Hornby commented, ‘Washin are exactly that partner. The move creates real opportunity for both businesses.’
For Foilco, this serves to provide access to a range of foil products that were not available before. Washin has an archive of more than 3000 colours and over 300 grade formulations.
Matt Hornby said, ‘The product range is an incredible resource, and the philosophy aligns closely with our own – delivering bespoke colours and technically advanced grades that meet every application in our industry with optimum results.’
Being part of a larger group also brings stability and confidence for the future, while opening up new opportunities for growth. Importantly, being part of a manufacturer will strengthen the company’s position when working with some of the biggest brands in the market.
For Washin, Foilco represents a major step forward in its international ambitions. Washin already operates outside Japan in some markets, but Foilco can offer a much stronger platform into global markets.
Shin Nakamichi, CEO of Washin, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Foilco into the Washin group. Foilco has expertise in international marketing, distribution and sales, Washin has the expertise in manufacturing. A perfect combination.’
