GSE has introduced a modular version of its Colorsat Solo single ingredient ink dispenser, for packaging and label printing applications. The redesigned Solo accommodates a variety of container sizes, and features standardised parts, simplifying later adaptations and training.

The Colorsat Solo is purpose built for accurate, fast and clean dispensing of inks that do not require blending, such as process colours, transparent whites or special coatings. It draws from storage drums or IBC tanks, and dispenses ink needed for the print job into smaller containers. Dispensing is manually activated by using a ball valve or, optionally, a foot pedal that opens a pneumatic valve only when pressed, thus minimising the risk of spillage.

The redesigned modular frame offers new levels of flexibility, accommodating a wide range of dispense container sizes from five litres upwards. The equipment can be supplied in an explosion proof configuration, suitable for solvent based inks. Components such as pumps and valves are standardised across GSE’s dispensing portfolio, making service, upgrades and operator training more straightforward. Printers can also scale up performance by exchanging the standard ½” pump and manual ball valve for a ¾” pump and a pneumatic 18-5 or 32-5 valve, enabling easier and faster dispensing of higher viscosity inks and larger volumes.

An air operated diaphragm pump circulates ink inside the drum through press and return pipes and flexible hoses, preventing pigment settling and ensuring inks are dispensed at a consistent strength. Circulation is activated manually or, optionally, automatically according to a preset time schedule. Because it requires only a pressurised air connection, the system can be installed conveniently close to the press, reducing excessive motion.

For greater automation of ink processes, the Colorsat Solo can be optionally integrated with GSE Ink manager software, when linked to a weighing scale and computer system. This enables automatic ink data entry, full traceability, real time stock visibility and improved cost control, removing manual record keeping and supporting more informed, data led ink management.

Maarten Hummelen, marketing director at GSE, commented: ‘With the Colorsat Solo dispenser, label and packaging converters can keep pace with fast, demanding workflows. By ensuring consistent ink quality and enabling quick, clean dispensing, the Solo removes risk of bottlenecks in preparation, supports handling in accordance with safety standards, and keeps production running smoothly.’
