i2r Packaging Solutions has announced the appointment of James Knight in a newly created role as managing director. He assumes responsibility for the commercial and operational running of the company from joint founders, Peter Reay and Jon West, who will focus more on special projects and international development.
A specialist in strategy and business leadership driving transformational change, James has a successful background in implementing business improvement platforms across market sectors within SMEs and large scale plcs. He previously worked in a number of key international roles as a managing director and several executive leadership positions in commercial, financial and manufacturing industries worldwide.

As managing director, James will continue to develop the company’s loyal and highly skilled workforce, whilst further enhancing i2r’s partnerships across its supply chain. Following a period of strategic investments, including five new extrusion presses at the firm’s UK manufacturing site, i2r is looking to further expand its reach globally, while developing its brand ambassadors to create future packaging innovation.
He said, ‘I am incredibly proud to be leading and guiding such a committed and talented team through an immense amount of change, investment and market growth.
‘It is an incredibly exciting new phase for i2r globally, and I am very much looking forward to taking such an already established company and brand to new levels. We will continue to put our customers’ needs at the very heart of our business and invest in innovation.’
A recent winner of two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, i2r was established in 2007 and is one of the largest aluminium container producers in Europe producing over 1.5 billion containers annually.
