i2r will be using this year’s IDDBA show to announce further global expansion with the launch of a new manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada. The site, which is strategically located to service and grow the company’s North American customer base, is scheduled for completion in Q4 2023.
Representatives from i2r will be welcoming visitors to Booth 1570 at the event, being held at the Anaheim Convention Centre, Anaheim, USA, on 4 to 6 June.
i2r supplies major food producers and retail brands, as well as wholesaler and distributor markets to 28 countries worldwide, including Central and Northern Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Australia. With combined group assets including 600 active tool profiles, 80 high speed process lines and four manufacturing sites (including Canada), i2r has been able to build on its impressive growth capacity and expand its worldwide market penetration through excellence in innovation and international trade.
With a focus on automation, the plant with a $15 million initial investment, will launch with high speed process lines and collection systems and new and existing tool profiles. The site will function collaboratively with the other three manufacturing plants within the group, thereby ensuring that it is well placed to meet capacity demands globally. It will manufacture a full range of traditional smoothwall, wrinklewall and European smoothwall aluminium containers.
As multiple award winners, including two Queen’s Awards for International Trade and Innovation and numerous EAFA awards, the group last expanded its international operations in 2017 with an investment in South Korea and in 2019 with a manufacturing site in Turkey. Following these successes and ongoing opportunities in North America, the firm continues to evaluate more investments to further enhance its overseas operations.
‘In building on our existing US business, the launch of our first manufacturing site for North America is an important part of our international strategy and expansion plans.
‘Our key goals, objectives and vision include delivering a fresh approach to an existing market, championing innovation in partnership with our customers, and providing the highest quality product while driving to be an added value manufacturer in our sector – all strategies designed to fulfil ambitious financial targets,’ said Mark D’Angelo, i2r’s North American managing director.
