Employees at the Koehler Group have raised an impressive €10,000 in donations through the ‘Koehler Cycles’ campaign.
Dr Stefan Karrer, chief operating officer, had the honour of handing the donations over to Bernd Rendler, member of the board of the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder eV, a Freiburg, Germany based foundation that works with children suffering from cancer.
For many years now, employees have been encouraged to regularly cycle to work as part of the ‘Koehler Cycles’ initiative. The number of kilometres cycled is entered via the company’s intranet, where fuel and CO2 savings can also be viewed.
Last year, employees cycled a combined distance equivalent to three times the circumference of the Earth. This represented an increase on the previous year, from 101,000 kilometres to 137,510 kilometres. As a result, employees saved €20,600 in fuel costs and emitted 22 metric tonnes less CO2, not to mention the positive impact of cycling on their health. The Koehler Group donates five cents per kilometre cycled, which this year added up to €6875.50. This total was rounded up to €10,000 by the board of the company.
The Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder eV and the Koehler Group can look back over a solid decades long partnership. The pandemic in particular was a difficult time for children suffering from cancer and their families. This makes the company all the more pleased to have been able to make a small contribution once again this year, thereby supporting those families the foundation helps.
‘The initiative is beneficial to us all in many ways,’ said Stefan Grözinger, head of HR development, training, and occupational health management at Koehler. ‘Our employees get to do something good for their health and the environment whilst also contributing to helping those who are not so fortunate. I wouldd also like to thank Bernd Rendler for receiving the donations from the Koehler Group for the past 37 years.’
