MM Board & Paper has completed its investment in continuous cooking technology at MM Kwidzyn, marking a further step in the site’s long term development. The new continuous digester, which has already commenced operations, is expected to reduce the integrated mill’s CO₂ emissions substantially by around one-third as well as the mill’s wood consumption.

Located in northern Poland, MM Kwidzyn produces virgin fibre cartonboard, packaging kraft paper, uncoated fine paper, moulded pulp and NBSK market pulp.

The new technology will reduce annual wood consumption by around 50,000 m³ while maintaining the same production output. In combination with accompanying energy efficiency measures, the investment is also expected to lower annual CO₂ emissions by approximately 100,000 tonnes.

Overall, the project represents an important step in MM Kwidzyn’s decarbonisation roadmap, supporting a lower carbon footprint for the mill’s cartonboard, paper and pulp products.

Filip Drofiak, managing director of MM Kwidzyn, said: ‘Continuous cooking technology is an important investment in the future of MM Kwidzyn. It combines what matters most to us: the efficient use of resources, competitive production and a progressively lower product carbon footprint for our customers.’

Markus Nöcker, vice president sales UFP and PKP at MM Board & Paper, added: ‘Our customers need dependable materials and increasingly want to understand the environmental impact of how they are produced. This investment is expected to further enhance resource efficiency and support the continuous optimisation of our mill operations, creating lasting value for our customers.’
