Mondi customers experience high performance kraft paper first hand at new papermachine in Štětí mill

Mondi welcomed international customers and partners to celebrate the inauguration of its papermachine at its Štětí mill in the Czech Republic.

The new machine was successfully started up in December 2024 and meets the growing customer demand for paper based flexible packaging, driven by e-commerce and an increasing focus on sustainability. It will produce around 210,000 tonnes of high performance kraft paper per year, delivering a broad range of high strength and high porosity grades for construction, industrial and e-commerce applications, further advancing Mondi’s commitment to offering customers packaging and paper solutions that are sustainable by design.

The new papermachine forms part of a €400 million investment in the mill enhancing Mondi’s ability to provide customers with a reliable supply of kraft paper and to support their transition to renewable and recyclable paper based solutions. It also enables the company to optimise production across its wider kraft paper portfolio offering customers a full range of high quality speciality kraft papers, including functional barrier grades.

The inauguration event held earlier this month celebrated Mondi’s commitment to long term partnerships, circularity and sustainable growth. More than 130 customers and partners joined the celebration to see the new paper machine in operation.

Speaking at the event, Andrew King, group CEO, said: ‘This is more than a papermachine, it is a symbol of what we can achieve when innovation, sustainability and teamwork come together. It enables us to continue delivering great service to our customers and the high quality packaging materials they want to help them achieve their sustainability goals.’

Miroslav Zitka, managing director of the Štětí mill, and Vladimir Krajci, project director Mondi Kraft Paper, shared insights into the project’s journey from design to start up, highlighting the teamwork, safety and dedication that ensured the project was completed on time and on budget. The day also featured a panel discussion with customers, machine producers and industry experts discussing market trends, sustainability, and the importance of collaboration across the packaging value chain.

The event concluded with guided tours of the new machine, networking and celebrations, marking a proud moment for Mondi and its partners.
