Ovendens: now a carbon neutral company

Paper Solutions

Since 1943, Ovendens has been helping customers to get exactly the right substrate that they need for the job in hand.

The family owned, independent paper and envelope merchant has a main facility in Harlow, Essex, where it holds around 7000 tonnes of stock for quick delivery.

Earlier this year, Ovendens was accredited with carbon neutral status, after being independently and third party accredited. To achieve this it has employed a number of measures such as changing to renewable energy, installing motion activated lighting and LED bulbs, switching its forklifts from LPG to electric, investing in newer, cleaner vehicles for delivery, introduced hybrid working, and increased reuse and recycling.

Any unavoidable caron impacts are then offset through its partnership with Natural Capital Partners, to support investment in wind generated renewable energy.

This was an incredible effort on behalf of the whole business and included elements such as emissions from the company’s fleet of delivery vehicles, staff commuting, the company premises, waste generated, and all other aspects of operating a wholesale business.

Ovenden Papers is also a supporter of the Carbon Balanced Paper initiative, which, offsets the unavoidable carbon emissions generated during the paper making process through a partnership with World Land Trust.

All the company’s paper and packaging ranges are FSC or PEFC certified, which guarantees environmental care and provides an assurance to customers that the raw materials come only from forests managed to high sustainability standards.
