Peter Conner signs off from a lifetime in box making

Packaging Solutions

Pusterla Pollards’ commercial director Peter Conner is retiring after nearly 29 years with the business and 47 years in total in the box making industry.

Peter could in fact be said to have box making in his blood as his great grandfather established a box making business back in 1910. His early experience was with the London Fancy Box company, which he joined not long after leaving college. After around ten years, he moved to Robinson Packaging as business manager for the company’s Rigid Box Division.

In 1993, Peter joined what was then Pollard Boxes as general manager, before becoming commercial director a year later. In his new sales focused role, he helped Pollards to expand the business from its original supply of jewellery and shoe boxes into new markets, in particular the growing home entertainment sector, with the design and production of slip cases for VHS videos, and boxes for music cassettes and PC games.

More recently, he has spearheaded Pollards’ continued growth to become the UK’s leading luxury presentation packaging specialist for a variety of markets including beauty, hair care, premium drinks, and gifts.

‘It has been an incredible journey over the past nearly 50 years,’ said Peter. ‘Like most industries, box making has changed and developed immensely during this time, and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been a part of this, in particular helping Pollards to become the market leader it is today.

‘I know I will miss the ‘buzz’ of the industry and of course all my colleagues and the many friends I have made over the years, but at the same time, I do have plenty of exciting things planned to make the most of my retirement!’

Mark Pollard, Pusterla Pollards’ managing director, commented: ‘Peter has made a huge contribution to the success and growth of Pollards, and we will miss his energy, enthusiasm and wise counsel. His retirement is well deserved, and we wish him a long and happy one.’
