Markzware now offers IDML file preview across IDMarkz, OmniMarkz, FlightCheck, and MarkzPortal, while DesignMarkz lets users import IDML files directly into Canva.

IDML, short for InDesign Markup Language, is Adobe's XML based interchange format used for exchanging, opening, and rebuilding InDesign layouts across versions and workflows.

Markzware has added native IDML file preview to IDMarkz, OmniMarkz, FlightCheck, and MarkzPortal, and has taken the workflow a step further with DesignMarkz, which now brings IDML files directly into Canva.IDML export is not new territory for Markzware. Its tools have been converting InDesign and PDF files to IDML for years, mostly for people who need to edit or migrate content. What is new is Publisher to IDML. Microsoft is retiring Publisher, and many businesses are holding onto years of .pub files with no plan for their future use. Converting those to IDML gives them a way into Affinity, InDesign, or any other application that reads IDML, instead of leaving all that work stranded in a dead format. All Markzware products work independently of a live Adobe InDesign installation. IDMarkz, OmniMarkz, FlightCheck, and MarkzPortal can open and preview IDML files, helping users review, preflight, inspect, and prepare content faster. MarkzPortal extends these capabilities to distributed teams through the browser.

IDML files often turn up as orphans, sitting in archives or arriving without the original InDesign file, fonts, or links. Markzware can now scan, inspect, and essentially x-ray the IDML itself. FlightCheck reveals missing resources, font problems, colours, images, and document structure before a file goes into production, with the same capability coming to MarkzPortal. Even when the source files are gone, you can see whether an IDML is ready to print.

‘Markzware develops powerful file conversion tools that allow you to open and convert Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, PDF, Publisher, and Photoshop files into formats compatible with platforms like Affinity and Canva,’ said Patrick Marchese, founder, Markzware.
