Savings for printing businesses who are large energy users

Print Solutions

The BPIF is highlighting the significant savings available for sites in the printing sector using more than 500,000 kwh per annum.

The organisation is the sole provider of the CCL reduction scheme for the printing industry in the UK, with over 300 UK printing sites currently saving a combined £11 million per annum.

The scheme works whereby in return for a commitment to reducing energy use in relation to production (ie improved throughput efficiencies), participating companies can make savings of 92% on the electricity levy and 89% on the gas levy.

The new CCL reduction scheme starts in 2026 and runs through to 2033.

The Environment Agency has reopened the window to join the scheme from 2026, but full applications have to be completed by the end of the summer.

This is not energy buying and does not impact your existing supply agreement.

‘Being part of the CCL Scheme has helped us promote energy efficiency, reducing both energy costs and our impact on the environment,’ said Matt Scott-Barnes, QSHE manager, Stephen Austin & Sons. ‘It is a useful goal setting tool which now forms part of our long term planning.’

He continued, ‘Steve Walker at the BPIF has provided outstanding support and guidance with regular updates and expert advice, making the process clear and manageable and helping us ensure we meet our reduction targets and realise the resulting savings year after year.’

Marcus Short, joint managing director at Qualvis Print & Packaging, said: ‘From our experience the scheme has been a no-brainer, not only do we get a reduction in our electricity and gas bills, but it actively encourages us to be more energy efficient in the production environment. Steve is on hand to answer any questions and assists with the administrative side, so it doesn't become a burden.’

‘We have been part of the scheme for many years; helping us reduce the cost of electricity and gas,’ commented Pavel Vondra QHSE manager at Tipografic.

‘Steve from the BPIF has been extremely supportive, guiding us through the CCL Scheme. All required documents to support the scheme have been well established with great examples, making the whole process user friendly. Online education sessions are provided by the BPIF to introduce organisations to the scheme. Steve is always available to answer any additional questions or to schedule a conference call to help us with any CCL task.’
