Severn enhances print on-demand service with Horizon HT1000V

Severn has increased book binding productivity with a Horizon HT1000V three-knife trimmer from IFS.

The new addition will also enable the Gloucester based environmental printer to enhance its responsive print on-demand capabilities.

It will handle work from the UK's first Canon VarioPrint iX2100 sheetfed inkjet press and VarioPrint i300 cut sheet units. Severn also runs a web fed ColorStream 3900.

Director Mark Allington expects return on investment to be achieved within the three years anticipated for all small investments made by Severn. He said, ‘We wanted to increase productivity in our book bindery and needed a highly automated solution to maximise production flexibility. We chose the Horizon HT1000V because we liked its speed, automation and ability to use barcodes to configure set up.’

He continued, ‘We did look at alternatives but the Horizon stood out in part because it was something I had previous experience with. I knew it could help us with what we were looking to achieve.’

The Horizon HT1000V variable three-knife trimmer produces high quality variable short run and book of one production at up to 1000 books per hour. It can produce books with a maximum trimmed size of 340 x 300 mm down to a minimum trimmed size of 145 by 101.6 mm, single or multiple stack books can be trimmed up to 65 mm in thickness. It features a use -friendly interface that enables intuitive operation and fine tune adjustment. Some 200 jobs can be memorised for repeat orders or special applications.
