Wipak UK to showcase latest sustainable solutions at Packaging Innovations

Packaging Solutions

At a time when local councils are proposing fines for households that contaminate recycling streams or do not recycle at all, food packaging that is designed for recycling has never been more pertinent.

In a bid to alleviate consumer responsibility and promote a more effective circular system for food packaging, Wipak UK is growing its sustainable product portfolio – GreenChoice – with continuous new product development and innovation, which it will showcase at Packaging Innovations & Empack on 21 and 22 February 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham. ‘When it comes to recycling, suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers have a shared responsibility across every phase of a pack's lifecycle,’ explained UK sales manager, Wayne Hallsworth, at Wipak UK. ‘We are working hard to grow our GreenChoice sustainable product range and simplify the recycling process for consumers, enabling better recycling at end of life. One such innovation is a mono polyester lidding film currently in development, which is designed to be part peelable and part weld seal, ensuring it stays firmly attached to its base tray and the pack is recycled in its entirety at kerbside.’

Thanks to a multi million pound machinery investment in 2021, Wipak UK’s GreenChoice range has seen continuous expansion in recent years, addressing the challenges posed by contemporary recycling practices. With its converting equipment, the flexible packaging supplier can design packs that use less plastic, have a lower carbon footprint, and which are easier to recycle than market standard formats. ‘We set ourselves the ambitious target to be carbon neutral by the end of 2025 and by placing sustainable design and innovation at the heart of everything we do, we believe this is achievable,’ continued Wayne. ‘To find out more about our GreenChoice range and how our solutions provide real benefits to customers, consumers, and the environment, come and find us on stand M130 at Packaging Innovations this February.’
