Kortho’s new ‘Industry 4.0’ inkjet printers feature Seiko’s printheads

Kortho has chosen the 510BN series of printheads from Seiko Instruments for its next generation ‘Industry 4.0’ printers.

The company has been manufacturing coding and marking equipment in The Netherlands since 1958. Under the name of Kortho GraphicJet the first high resolution piezo inkjet printers were released in the year 2000. Since then GraphicJets have gained the reputation of being the most reliable and maintenance free Piezo inkjet printers in the coding market.

Piezo inkjet printers are widely used in second stage packaging as a cost effective alternative for in line labelling systems. The high resolution allows the printing of barcodes with good scannability, while the cost per print is a fraction of a label. As fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) constantly require more product information on the packaging a new generation inkjet with bigger printheads was required. Like all new Kortho ‘IoT’ printers it also needed to be 100% Industry 4.0 ready, but above all, it needed to live up to Kortho’s reputation.

After stress testing many Piezo printheads for 24 hours a day, seven days a week during a period of almost one year, Kortho found Seiko ́s 510BN series of printheads to be the ideal choice for coding and marking. Even when all other printheads were affected by the dusty and harsh environments found in industrial coding, the printhead from Seiko always kept printing flawlessly, producing sharp and good contrasting barcodes, even against dark backgrounds like brown corrugated cardboard boxes.

The print width of 72 mm and a drop volume range of up to 80 pl makes the 510BN series’portfolio the right solution for large format labelling.
