MBM Print SCS has invested in an Intelligent Finishing Systems supplied Horizon BQ270V single clamp perfect binder after winning a new contract for short run fast turnaround manuals.

The East Kilbride operation has evolved to offer intelligent and bespoke litho and digital print services. With a focus on efficiency, value and seamless integration, MBM Print SCS works with clients in the electronics, pharmaceutical, commercial, publishing and automotive industries with key customers including Canon, Sony, Mitsubishi, OKI and Toyota.

It has also achieved pharmaceutical accreditation elevating the standard of services it can confidently offer.

Bryan Munro, operations director for MBM Print SCS, commented: ‘We won a new contract and that increased our requirement for short run, fast turnaround manuals. The Horizon BQ270 will enable us to provide a quicker response to customer demand and reduce pressure on our larger trend binding line to produce low volume work.’

As for choosing the BQ270 he said, ‘Horizon has a long standing reputation for high quality solutions that effectively manage low volume digital production. I liked the Horizon’s speed of make ready and low waste.’

He continued, ‘I was also impressed by the system’s video and the IFS team’s commitment to ensuring the purchase and installation would be beneficial and present MBM with the best solution. IFS understood our requirements and presented us with a viable and cost effective solution that would give us what we require with little or no hassle.’

And that decision has paid off said Bryan: ‘It has reduced outsourcing costs and we have been able to better control all production elements on one site. It also enables MBM Print SCS to be more responsive to customer demand. As a result, we expect return on investment in 16-20 months depending on volumes.’

The 5Horizon BQ-270V single clamp perfect binder offers high quality perfect binding and on-demand production of variable thickness books.

The binder includes an automated, sensor activated digital caliper system which consistently measures book block thickness and automatically transfers this data to the binder for quick, automated set-up for books of different thicknesses. It features a large intelligent colour touch screen, job programming, and a compact configuration.
