Renz UK completes biggest ever multiple machine order

Print Solutions

Renz has completed delivery of its biggest ever multiple machine UK order – 450 calendar binding kits for Max Spielmann.

Max Spielmann was founded by Bill Graham and his business partner David Reed in the 1950s and owned by the Wirral based Graham family for 50 years. In 2008 it was acquired by the Timpson Group. Today, there are over 450 stores throughout the UK.

Ivan Sestan, innovation director, explains the group’s decision to enable in-store on demand calendar production: ‘For the past five years we have printed calendars at our central production site but there are big peaks in October, November and December. We thought we could improve the service to our customers by distributing the production to the point of sale.

‘We explored the best way this could be achieved. We found the calendar binding line from Renz was quick and easy to install, simple to use and assured a high quality product. Reliability was critical as well and we liked the fact there is good on-going support.’

Each binding kit consists of a Renz SRW 360 tabletop wire binder, a Renz TC20 calendar thumb cut punch, 100 wires and 100 hangers.

‘We trialled it for four months and were very pleased with the results,’ continued Ivan. ‘We chose to roll the same lines out throughout the stores because we didn’t want to have to support and train multiple solutions and wanted product consistency for all our customers. The last lines have just gone in and are ready for this festive season’s busy period.’

As for choosing the Renz solutions Ivan explained: ‘We already worked with larger Renz machines in our central production. They are consistently reliable and produce a very high quality. So that made it easy to speak to Renz about our plans for the stores. It knew we also wanted compact, easy to use machines that could be introduced smoothly and efficiently meet the peak demands.

‘Also, the fact we already had a good working relationship with Renz gives us peace of mind. We know we can access expert advice, guidance and support when we need it. This will help us be confident that we can deliver consistent results from store to store.’

The production process at Max Spielmann is supported by an online ordering service that enables an order to receipt production of just an hour.

As for the expected impact of this new approach, it is still early days but Ivan stated: ‘We believe this will help us grow sales because we can provide a more responsive and faster turnaround service. We are adding additional opportunities such as photobooks, documents, dissertations, CVs and orders of service.’
