Avanti Conveyors to relocate to purpose built site

Packaging Solutions

Avanti Conveyors, manufacturer and supplier of high quality materials handling equipment, has announced that it has secured a new site in Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire to support ambitious growth plans.

Exponential growth in the corrugated industry (over of 6% year on year) has driven up demand for more automated materials handling systems. Avanti Conveyors has experienced a significant increase in demand for its products and has committed to this move to facilitate continued growth.

The new building will comprise a purpose built 40,000 square foot manufacturing bay with a 5500 square foot mezzanine for office space and a 5000 square foot mezzanine for electrical engineering. A dedicated new product development area is included in the layout plans.

This enlarged manufacturing facility will provide four bays for full assembly, a new testing area of the Pegasus separator palletiser line, as well as allowing customers an in-person or online demonstration and acceptance of their equipment prior to shipment to their site.

This new plant will fulfil Avanti Conveyor’s objective to ship conveyors up to 14 metres in length in single sections for efficient, cost effective installation. Overhead cranes will be used internally for truck loading of large sections of engineering products. The new welding and fabrication areas will allow a significant percentage of outsourced fabrication to be brought in-house, helping ensure the competitive cost base is sustained for the long term. The company’s future plans on this site include the addition of an in-house powder coating facility and further expansion of product lines.

Avanti Conveyors’ approach for combining innovation, flexibility and support in its product lines is mirrored by its environmental approach to business and is reflected in several aspects of the new plant. The facility will have solar panel integration, LED lighting, waste segregation, cycle parking areas and EV charging for 20 vehicles.

This expansion will result in the creation of up to 36 new jobs in the local community, including two apprenticeships per year. These apprenticeships will be ring fenced for local unemployed people. Local suppliers will also benefit from this expansion as Avanti Conveyors has an established and trusted local supplier base.

The company is arranging open days for future employees, suppliers, customers and the local community when the new plant opens and is also planning some exciting projects for local schools. Building works at the site are expected to be completed by September 2022.

Simon Mander, managing director and owner, explained: ‘We have been searching for some time to locate alternative premises to facilitate the growth and demand and we are delighted to be able to remain in the local High Peak area.’
