Hollywood Monster continues evolution with latest EFI M3h from CMYUK

Print Solutions

Hollywood Monster has invested in an EFI M3h UV-LED hybrid printer from CMYUK. It replaces an older Vutek HS125 platform and marks another milestone of technological advancement for the business.

‘The two HS125s have been great printers, and they have worked really hard for us and our clients,’ said Hollywood Monster’s CEO Simon McKenzie, ‘but as we continue to grow, we needed to upgrade. We have consistently chosen EFI technology because they continually push the boundaries of what is possible whilst also helping us reduce our carbon footprint.’

This is the fourteenth EFI printer that Hollywood Monster has purchased from CMYUK. Over the last two decades, it has continually invested in a plant list capable of producing high quality print volumes within the shortest turnaround times. Its proven track record has earned the trust of clients that include global brands which rely on the business to deliver consistently across all forms of wide format print without compromise.

The Vutek M3h made its debut on the EFI stand at Fespa, Berlin, earlier this year. It is recognised as the successor to the GS series of printers.

Compared to the HS125, the M3h slashes power use by over 75% from 15.5 kW to just 3.8 kW and has fewer consumables. Productivity is increased with instant on/off UV lamps that require less maintenance. Inks don’t need to be purged between jobs, reducing ink waste and downtime, resulting in a greater cost effective operation that doesn’t compromise on productivity or print quality.

‘In terms of energy consumption, the M3h is far more sustainable and efficient which is incredibly important to us from an ESG perspective, and even though it is a 3.2 metre wide printer, its footprint is smaller than the HS125. Part of the reason for that is because of its reduced tables depth that take up less floor space. It still copes with the large sheets but makes the feeding of these into the printer much more manageable,’ said Simon.

This printer is a great all rounder and highly versatile, offering board, sheet, and roll to roll printing on media up to 5.08 cm thick, with fast changeover.  It offers production level continuous print capabilities as well as queue on-demand functionality for multi job printing to maximise productivity.

With a maximum resolution of 2400 dpi, and speeds of up to 290 square metres per hour (77 boards), it prints CMYK plus white and offers clear coat ink for full flood or spot colour enhancements. A magnetic linear drive enables better accurate dot placement for precision printing with 7pL/14/pL greyscale printheads.

There are a number of user friendly features and advanced print capabilities that allow for the printing of more jobs with ease and precision. These include a collision detection system that alerts the operator to wrinkles or other defects in the material, an anti-static bar that operates across the width of the platen for the removal of static build up, and automated head cleaning. Touch screens are situated to both the rear and front, and full width lighting gives full illumination.

Simon said, ‘The Vutek M3h supports our diverse print requirements. It delivers superior performance to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of our client base – while reducing environmental impact, to which we are fully committed. This purchase continues our longstanding partnership with CMYUK and EFI, both central to the growth and success of our business. It is part of our continual investment programme. We are not just moving with the latest technology; we are actively leading the pack.’
