Quadraproof invests in new Polar to increase cutting output

Cambridge printer Quadraproof has taken delivery of a Polar 78 Eco to achieve a lift in cutting capacity. It has replaced a 24 year old Polar 76 which Quadraproof had bought second hand 12 years ago.

‘We thought we would take the second hand route again but Heidelberg was convincing in presenting the new Polar and we achieved a £2500 trade in on our old guillotine,’ said Doug Doig, founder and managing director.

‘We needed something quicker and more up to date and already we are seeing that it is faster. We are getting used to the modern control panel and we think this latest technology will help us and make the right impression on visitors to our works, including customers from cutting edge technology firms on the science park in Cambridge.’

The Polar 78 Eco features the Optiknife for quick and easy knife changes and fine knife adjustment to extend the cutting life as well as the DPS positioning system for accurate cutting. It has a backgauge speed of 300 mm per second and it can handle work up to 780 x 780 mm so is ideal for B2 printers.

Quadraproof is 33 years old and, although cautious in its buying, most of its equipment is under two years old, since its recent investment in digital and finishing technology. The guillotine will handle work from both the litho and digital presses and will run from 7.30 am to 5 pm and later when required. The company provides most finishing processes in-house, including laminating.

‘We are just a team of four with no sales staff but have always secured work by word of mouth and a good reputation. I have been very lucky,’ said Doug.

He added, ‘Buying new from Heidelberg does give us peace of mind. Its sales and engineering staff are first class and we recognise that the after sales service is excellent.’
