The BPIF recently announced the winners of the 2025 British Book Design & Production Awards, held at the stunning De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The theme this year for the event was ‘Bound’, acknowledging the array of binding methods and the history and intricacies that can be applied.

A total of 101 beautiful books were shortlisted, and celebrated an array of winners across 19 categories, displaying the best in books produced, designed and published in 2025. The Book of the Year was won by Beowulf (The Morris Edition) published by Books Ilustrated.
The student category was won by Rhys Lewis from UWE Bristol, who took home the trophy for his creative book, A Month's Celery Gets You Four Leeks Pay.
The evening was hosted for the third time by Anita Mangan, an accomplished designer and illustrator of nearly 100 books, including her own titles Bingo: An Illustrated Guide to Bingo Lingo and The Chinese Zodiac: A Seriously Silly Guide. She has created five best selling children’s books, with two more releasing this year, including one for World Book Day, entitled The Fart That Broke World Book Day. Anita provided attendees with an amazing comedic binding and awards themed presentation, and a comedic poem which was met by an outstanding applause.
Charles Jarrold, chief executive of the BPIF opened the evening by highlighting the continued strength of the UK publishing industry, noting that British consumers spent over £1.8 billion on print books in 2025 and that total physical book revenue is approaching £4 billion, reinforcing the UK’s position as a leading book producing nation. He emphasised that the sector is not in decline, pointing to strong ongoing demand for physical books despite a digital first world, and praised the creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration that continue to drive innovation across the sector.
After the awards celebration, each guest received a copy of the Book of the Night, designed by EN-TE and printed by Northend on high quality paper by Sappi and EBB, which this year followed the event’s theme with beautiful display of binding by Diamond Print Services. The book showcased the shortlisted and winning books – a collection of all the talent of all this year’s finalists.
