CMP (UK) enhances versatile book production with latest investment

Print Solutions Finishing Solutions

Leading book printer CMP (UK) has responded to growth in demand for its versatile and responsive, fast turnaround, short run production, with investment in a Horizon BQ-500 Ice binder from IFS.

The Dorset operation, established in 1995, specialises in offering book printing services to publishers and self-publishing authors. Producing high quality soft and hard back books in black and white, full colour or a mix of the two, its mission is to provide an unrivalled publishing service in both cost and print finish.

As part of that commitment the operation invested in an Horizon HT-300 Ice trimmer 18 months ago. It ran near line to a Horizon BQ470 four clamp perfect binder.

Richard Johnson, operations director, commented: ‘We have seen a lot of growth in the short run book sector over the past 24 months. The HT-300 was the start and the BQ-500 will solidify our ability to effectively service that even further.

‘We have worked with IFS previously and knew that the BQ-500 was our best choice for short run digital book production and would deliver high quality and quick turnaround capabilities. It was perfect for our needs. We also liked the fact that it was designed to be more accessible for our staff. This enables operators from different shift patterns to run it. Ice Link is also nice to have and it is good to be able to access the data should we need it.’

He added, ‘We looked at the investment strategically over the years and, while we want to achieve return on investment in as short a time as possible, the decision was made primarily based on securing longevity of quality for our client base.’

The BQ-500 is the next generation of Horizon’s highly successful series of four clamp binders. It is equipped with cloud based Ice Link workflow that provides access to an intuitive easy to use dashboard. It reports real time production analysis for improved efficiency and profitability, remote update capabilities and scheduled maintenance resulting in less downtime.
