Star Editions moves to custom and personalised apparel success with Kornit Digital

Textile Solutions

Ipswich based Star Editions is a licensed apparel producer and retailer, offering custom and personalised apparel featuring such pop culture properties as Doctor Who, Mr Bean, Peppa Pig, Wallace and Grommit, and others. The business first installed a production system from Kornit Digital for sustainable, digital direct to garment decoration on demand in 2020, with growth necessitating an additional system in 2022.

In addition to leveraging Kornit’s capabilities for fast, pushbutton fulfilment without graphic or colour limitations, Star Editions has adopted KornitX workflow solutions for efficient onboarding of new web design and sales channels, and seamless, transparent routing of orders for rapid production and delivery. KornitX integrates with their online store for a scalable, efficient customer experience enabling rapid on-demand customisations from their growing image library.

Recently, Kornit introduced Star Editions to the Next third party marketplace, expanding opportunities for consumer engagement and sales. Offering a wide range of clothing, footwear, and home products, Next is one of the largest United Kingdom based retailers, with 500 stores in the UK and 200 additional stores globally.

By aligning supply with demand and eliminating the risks and waste associated with forecast based overproduction, Star Editions operates and grows with an on-demand fulfilment model that enables localised, ‘made in the UK’ production that gives consumers what they want quickly, with digitised operations enabling visibility and accountability throughout.

‘Having a digital supply chain means we can customise and personalise the pieces people want, down to the single unit, and deliver it quickly and profitably every time,’ said Will Marston, chief executive officer at Star Editions. ‘We are continuously expanding our portfolio of licensed properties, which now include more than 50 million ready to print images we own, and this month brings Peter Rabbit into our collection. Incidentally, this just happens to be the year of the rabbit, and with the way innovators like Kornit and Next are helping us spring forward and get ahead of the market for fun and creative apparel, we think that is entirely fitting.’

Kornit’s workflow solutions support sustainable, reactive fulfilment of consumer demand by enabling producers and brands to capture orders and data from a wide range of web sources, including third party retailers, hosted marketplaces, social media applications, and more. By eliminating barriers between consumer data and digitally enabled producers, businesses like Star Editions can identify and capitalise on new opportunities and trends in real time.

‘Star Editions offers a perfect demonstration of how Kornit is moving beyond mere production excellence to create digital supply chains, link consumers and designers to the producers best equipped to fulfil their demand with precision, and usher in a new model that empowers retailers to adapt and grow while eliminating time, waste, and risk from the pixel to parcel experience,’ said Phil Oakley, Kornit Digital’s sales director – United Kingdom and Ireland. ‘With on-demand production, licensors like Star Editions can leverage the content people want, and connect all the dots to tap into growing markets – entirely new online ecosystems, really – while empowering consumers to create with abandon, and offering a virtually unlimited range of product possibilities, because you’re only making what actually sells.’
