Croydon based family business Graphico is replacing a Printmaster PM 52 and a GTO with two Speedmaster SX52 presses, a four colour and a two colour. The presses will be delivered this month.
‘This will give us a 30 to 35% increase in capacity and we are optimistic we can fill it,’ said Shaukat Dungarwalla, managing director. ‘We recognised that our presses were ageing and competition is getting fierce so, in anticipation of a couple of new contracts and good business this year, we decided to invest. We upgraded our CTP last year with a new Suprasetter bought on a Heidelberg plates deal so we are ready for these new presses.’
The company handles national and international work, including contracts for many leading hotels, restaurants and banks. It estimates that 90% of its work is generated from repeat customers and through recommendations.
Graphico likes the Speedmaster SX52’s ability to print onto stocks of up to 600 g/m2 which gives it the flexibility and the capability of handling a wide range of work from NCR to envelopes. The company also has an SRA2 press but physical logistics have stopped it moving ahead with a replacement for that machine at this stage. Abizar Dungarwalla, pre press and digital director, says that in addition to the new litho presses, the company is also upgrading the digital Xerox presses which over the last two years have seen a fourfold increase in volumes. This is driven by their ‘never say no’ attitude to any kind of work and tight delivery schedules.
The business offers an entire print management service from concept to delivery stage and it has extensive print and storage logistics to enable users to call off products as needed. Its position between Gatwick and London is a good location for new business opportunities. The company was set up in 1975 by the three Dungarwalla brothers.
‘We have Suprasetter CTP and plates, Heidelberg presses and Polar guillotines. I am sure if you cut me in half I would have Heidelberg written through the middle,’ joked Shaukat.
