Watkiss PowerSquare for Edinburgh Copyshop

Print Solutions

The Edinburgh Copyshop, based in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, has added a Watkiss PowerSquare 160 bookletmaking system to its range of finishing equipment. The bookletmaker was purchased from Morgana and Watkiss dealer CLC Presentation Systems, based in Grangemouth.

The Edinburgh Copyshop handles a wide range of printing and graphic design needs, producing everything from photocopying through to large format prints.

Commenting on the new Watkiss finishing equipment, Jon Huffer, director of Edinburgh Copyshop, said: ‘We had been using an older Watkiss Vario machine, but it was having problems with heavier stocks and with certain digitally printed papers. The new machine is capable of handling a much wider range of substrates and can also produce the square backed finish – something that customers have been very impressed with. It helps us to produce a booklet that doesn’t gape open, and gives the appearance of a perfect bound publication.

‘Our typical product will be turning SRA4 sheets (mixed weights) into an A5 sized booklet, but we are also looking forward to promoting the ability to produce A4 landscape publications. That is the sort of printed product that can stand out and look different.’

Edinburgh Copyshop prints on Konica Minolta and Xerox digital equipment, as well as providing large format printing solutions, including CAD/plan printing.

The PowerSquare 160 lets users produce booklets from a wide range of sheet sizes and materials, including A4 landscape format and heavy cover stocks. With optional accessories for full bleed trimming and book stacking, printers can increase productivity and efficiency.

The proven Watkiss SquareBack process produces a superior quality finish. Automatic set thickness sensing ensures optimum book quality to deliver added value professional booklets for the print shop and its customers.

Commenting on behalf of CLC Presentation Systems, managing director Craig Cameron, said: ‘Having enjoyed a 20 year working relationship with Edinburgh Copyshop we were delighted to be able to assist the company with this latest equipment purchase. Our sales manager Jonathan Fowell was convinced this was the right product for Jon and the Copyshop team – it gives them the opportunity to produce a wide range of top quality binding with the square back finish. It is our first PowerSquare installation in Scotland.’
